Joan Banning Obituary, Death Cause – Joan Banning, 94, of Shelbyville, IL, died in Shelbyville Manor at 3:05 a.m. on November 20, 2023. Rev. Greg Breeden will officiate at Howe & Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville, IL, at 11:30 a.m. on November 28, 2023. Visitation will be 9:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville, IL, will hold the burial. Memorials can go to Shelby County Senior Center. Joan was born in Lakewood, IL, to Granville and Maurine (Smith) Hodson on May 15, 1929.

She graduated Cowden High. Joan married Eldon Dean Banning in Cowden, IL, on July 23, 1949. He died on May 9, 2013. Joan and Eldon worked hard after retirement to turn her overgrown childhood house into Hodson Hills, a beautiful rural hideaway. Joan enjoyed birding, gardening, quilting, and baking with her large family. Shelbyville’s First United Methodist Church was her church. She is survived by her children, Kathie Storm of Lakewood, IL, Dianne (Mike) Shallenberger, Doug (Kristi) Banning,

and Tina (Louie) Donnel of Shelbyville, IL; sisters, Emma Nelle Bates of Shelbyville and Doris Soldner of Effingham, IL; 11 grandchildren, Lia Koehler (Kris), Evan Russell (Rebecca), Doug Storm (Sarah), Ian Storm (Jill), Josh Shallenberger (Shannon), Kristen Runyon (Stephen), Jennifer Heckler (Matt), Kelli Cother
Her parents, husband, Eldon, son-in-law, Neil Storm, brother, Robert Hodson, and sisters, Kathaleen Licklider and Ruth Elliot, predeceased her.
