The family of a Sydney mother whose body was found in a park say they have been “deeply affected” by the tragedy after a man was charged with her alleged murder.

Police have been investigating the disappearance of Min Sook Moon, 49, after she was last seen walking along Rawson Street in Epping, in Sydney’s northwest, about 1.30pm on March 8.

She stepped into a vehicle in a car park, with family members raising the alarm that she was missing less than 48 hours later.

A 55-year-old man was arrested at Eastwood police station on Saturday morning after handing himself in.

Police said a body was found at a park in Silverwater – about 10 minutes south of Ms Moon’s last known location – just before 4pm.

Ms Moon’s son Adam said in a statement on Sunday that the family was devastated and still coming to terms with their loss.

“We have all been deeply affected by this tragedy and it is very hard to know that she will never be coming home after being so cruelly taken from us,” he said.

“On behalf of our family, we want to thank the community for sharing our appeals for information, and also thank those who provided information to the police.

“As we continue to process this news, our family has requested privacy at this time.”

A crime scene has been established at the park for forensic examination.

The arrested man was taken to Ryde police station and charged with murder.

He was refused bail and was scheduled to appear in Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.
