Coomera, QLD: Man badly burned in duplex explosion

A man has been left in a serious condition with “significant burns” after an explosion at a home in Queensland.

Emergency services were called to Fortune St, Coomera on the Gold Coast, at 4.20pm on Monday to find the property engulfed in flames with thick plumes of smoke billowing from windows.

Police found a severely injured man in his 30s and a woman in her 40s.

“[Queensland Ambulance Service] is currently treating one patient with significant burns,” a QAS spokesperson said shortly after the incident.

The man was later taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a serious condition under police escort.

Meanwhile a woman, aged in her 40s, was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with smoke inhalation and suspected back injuries.

A firefighter was also injured while fighting the blaze. He was also taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with minor injuries.

Nine News reporter Bailey Kenzie said the man’s burns are “full body.”

The network’s aerial footage shows fire has gutted the property, with firefighters still on the scene at the time of writing as they mop up.

Queensland Police are also in attendance and have established a crime scene, with the cause of the explosion yet to be determined.

The home is located just down the road from Coomera Police station.
